Yvonne Barrios Menendez

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Yvonne Barrios Menendez on October 25, 2025. Born on March 24, 1946, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Yvonne touched the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing her with her warmth and generosity.

Yvonne worked as a Medical Insurance Specialist before her retirement, but her true legacy lies in the way she welcomed everyone with open arms. Affectionately known as "Momma," "MawMaw," and "Grandma," she created a home filled with laughter and love, where friends and family gathered to share meals and lasting memories.

She was fondly regarded as a cake guru, expertly crafting delicious cakes for weddings and all her grandchildren's first birthday cakes. Family gatherings began and ended at her house, where her and her husband's cooking often became the centerpiece of cherished moments. She was also known for her homemade jams and famous pepper jelly.

In her quiet moments, Yvonne found joy in gardening, playing Solitaire and engaging in word games online, and also enjoyed her TV shows "Big Brother" and "The Young and the Restless." She held a special place in the Eastern Stars, where her spirit of giving and community flourished.

Yvonne enjoyed a beautiful marriage with her beloved husband, Alfred, for 35 wonderful years.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a visitation in honor of Yvonne on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at Chauvin Funeral Home in Magnolia Chapel from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will immediately follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Yvonne is survived by her children Darrin Yelverton (Laura), E.B. Burson (Amanda), Malette Terrio, and Alicia Henry (Kris); her brother Sonny Barrios (Carol); 13 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; her first husband David Yelverton; and her long time friend of the family and best friend, Larry Eschete.

She was preceded in death by her second husband James Brent Burson, Sr.; her third husband Alfred Menendez, Jr.; her sons Brealon Yelverton and James "Big Jimmy" Burson; her parents Nolan Barrios and Phyllis Barrios; and her sisters Lynn Ellsey and Gayle Lebouf.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Malette Terrio for the love and care that she provided and to Haydel Memorial Hospice. As we gather to celebrate Yvonne's life, let us reflect on her unwavering spirit and the joy she brought to our lives. Her kindness will forever remain in our hearts.
