William Morris "Bill" Bass, 83, passed away peacefully at his home in Houma, Louisiana on September 21, 2026 with Liz at his side. Born January 10, 1943 in Crowley, he later grew up in Lafayette, Louisiana.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Liz" Landry Bass and brother Robert "Bob" (Linda) Bass, children Aaron (Cheramie) Bass, Casey (Doug) Bass, James "Jim" (Amanda) Bass, grandchildren Lauryn, Claire, Tyler, Lily, Kate, Grace and William Bass. He was also loved by his stepchildren and grandchildren, Chuck (Kelly) Weaver, Jr., Julie Weaver, Jules (Mackenzie) Weaver and James (Bella) Weaver.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Thomas Bass and Elizabeth Rebecca "Becky" Morris Bass Huckaby.

Bill obtained his bachelor's degree in 1966 from Louisiana State University and Juris Doctorate in 1969 from Loyola University. He was admitted to practice law in 1969. He began his law career in Houma, Louisiana, then spent his remaining years as a partner in his law firm, Voorhies & Labbe, in Lafayette, Louisiana.

As an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed golfing, scuba diving, snow skiing, hunting, fishing, beach trips with family, vacationing with friends, and volunteering his time with CCA Louisiana in their conservation efforts to ensure sustainable fisheries and a thriving coast for future generations.

In his later years, Bill returned to Houma where he lived with his wife, Liz, in a home filled with laughter and surrounded by love. He was his happiest during quiet times at his camp in Cocodrie with his dog and a fishing pole, and during loud times in Death Valley as both alumni and LSU football player. He was instrumental in helping the Tigers win the Cotton Bowl in 1965 under Coach Charles McClendon.

Bill was a friend to many and will be remembered for the twinkle in his eye and his quiet smile.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2026 at 11:00 a.m., St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, 243 Barrow Street in Houma, Louisiana. Visitation will be at St. Matthew's from 8:30 a.m. to 11. Friends and family are invited to gather after the service in St. Matthew's Parish Hall to share stories and honor his memory.

The family would like to thank his close friend, Dr. Dickie Haydel and Dr. Edward Haight along with his kind and devoted caretakers who surrounded him during his final months.
