With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Whitney P Sapia, Sr., "Old Pawpaw Whit", age 74, on May 3,2026 surrounded by his family, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and strength.
Whitney was born on June 10,1951 to Carroll Sr. and Bessie Sapia. He grew up in a family of 15 children. Coming from a large family, he learned the importance of family values. He developed a strong work ethic at a young age. He had the incredible ability to "fix" anything. He took great pride in his work, and was always willing to help others.
On Dec 5,1970, at the age of 19, he married the love of his life, Barbara. Together they built a life of love and happiness, raising two children, Stacey and Whitney Jr. He was a devoted father, always there to offer guidance, love, support and sometimes a laugh because that's just what he did. He loved having his family and friends together. His presence brought love and happiness to those around him.
Whitney had a great love for music. He spent many years playing the guitar and singing in bands. Through his music he met many people, most becoming lifelong friends. He had many, many friends. He was known to the world for his generosity, kindness, and a sense of humor like no other. People smiled when he walked in the room.
He became the neighborhood "Paw". He adopted all the kids and loved having them visit him. When he wasn't sitting on his swing drinking coffee, he was either napping, watching the Saints play ball or he had snuck off to the casino.
He leaves behind a family who will miss him tremendously. His son, Whitney Jr and daughter in law, Billie, his daughter, Stacey and son in law, Cody Breaux ,
His grandchildren, Kaylie & Kade Breaux, Andie & Ashton Sapia, Sarah Falgout, and his two beautiful great granddaughters that he just adored, Paisley and Prestynn Sapia. He is also survived by a huge family and many friends who will also miss him dearly.
He was reunited in Heaven with his wife of 44 yrs Barbara Marcel Sapia, His grandson, Austin Sapia, who he missed greatly, his fur baby Ali, his parents, and many family members.
Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of his life on Friday May 8, 2026 at Chauvin funeral home 9am-12pm with ministry services beginning at 12:00pm/noon.
He lived life through his heart. He believed in family, friendships, making memories, but most importantly love. His Kindness, generosity, and love will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
Special thanks to Dr. Caleb Dupre, his grand daughter Kaylie, PA-C, Dr. Ugo, Dr. St Cyr,
