With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great provider, and faithful servant of the Lord on September 12, 2026. She leaves behind a large and loving family of children, grandchildren, and countless loved ones who were the center of her world. Her house was never empty, always filled with family, laughter, and the joy of being together.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a visitation in honor of Verna Mae on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at Chauvin Funeral Home in Magnolia Chapel, from 4:00p.m. until 8:00p.m. Visitation will resume on Monday, September 21, 2026 at Chauvin Funeral Home in Magnolia Chapel, beginning at 10:00a.m. until the Funeral Service at 12:00p.m. Verna Mae will be laid to rest following her services in Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Verna Mae is survived by her children, Albert Verret, Jr. (Patty), Cynthia DeHart (Jonathan), Charles Verret (Kalani), Nancy Lirette (Johnny), Michelle Lutz (Scott); grandchildren, Laken, Seth, Autumn, Blake, Cy, Madison, Arianne, Carter, Nicola, Kennedi, Kendrick, Adrianna, Chadalyn, Benjamin, Lincoln, Chadica; great grandchildren, Jeremiah, Jaiden, Jordan, Maxwell, Rowan, Alessia, Ellie, Blakelynn, Paisley, Harper, Asher, and Weston; sisters, Mary Clark, Norma Dardar, Celina Dardar, Lorraine Verdin; brothers, Paul Verdin, Jessie Verdin, and Joseph Verdin; godchildren, Raymond Clark, Emily Pinell, and Daisy Dardar. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Verna Mae is preceded in death by her parents, John Harry Verdin and Daisy Lodrigue; brother, Lawrence Lodrigue; brother-in-law, Raymond Clark, Sr.; sister-in-law, Terry Verdin, and beloved cat, Boots.

A devoted woman of faith, she faithfully attended Heritage Baptist Church (formerly Faith Baptist Church), she found great comfort in reading her Bible. Her faith guided her throughout her life and was reflected in the love and kindness she showed to others.

She spent 25 years working as a baker at Westside Walmart, where she became known for her dedication, reliability, and extraordinary work ethic. She was an incredibly hardworking woman who took pride in providing for her family. Many of her children and grandchildren fondly remember visiting Walmart and being greeted with free donuts from Grandma, a simple act that became a treasured memory.

She was a wonderful cook, famous among family and friends for her potato salad and many other delicious dishes. While she often joked that she did not particularly enjoy cooking, she lovingly prepared meals that brought her family together around the table time and time again.

Known for her feisty personality and honest nature, she never held anything back and always spoke her mind. Yet behind that strong spirit was a loving soul with a special light about her. She never judged others and welcomed everyone with an open heart. If someone needed help, she would move mountains to make sure they were taken care of. Her generosity, compassion, and willingness to put others first made a lasting impact on everyone who knew her.

Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and her beloved niece, April Pinell. She loved taking them on trips to Five Below, creating memories that will be cherished forever. Before beginning her career, she enjoyed crocheting and lovingly made blankets for her grandchildren and great grandchildren, gifts that became treasured keepsakes and reminders of her love.

She was also a devoted fan of Elvis Presley, whose music brought her happiness throughout the years.

Above all else, she will be remembered as a woman of unwavering faith, remarkable strength, and endless love. She was a dedicated worker, a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother, a faithful friend, and a provider who sacrificed so much for those she loved. Her presence lit up every room, her home welcomed everyone, and her heart was always open.

Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy of faith, hard work, generosity, and unconditional love will live on through her family and all those whose lives she touched. The memories she leaves behind will be cherished forever, and her example will continue to inspire generations to come.
