Shirley Ann Hughes

Shirley Ann Lafollette Hughes, 72, passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at 11:19am. Shirley was a native of Shreveport, LA and a resident of Houma, LA.

Family and friends of the family are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Monday, May 22, 2023, from 9:00am until service time at Chauvin Funeral Home. A Ministry Service will begin at 11:00am at Chauvin Funeral Home with a Private Burial to be held by the family at a later date.

Shirley is survived by her loving family, her daughter, Audrey Hughes Lirette and husband Ricky; grandchildren, Dorian and Seth Lirette; sister, EllaRose White; brothers, Wayne Lafolette (Gail), Tim Alsobrooks (Sandra); her childhood guardian, Jeanne Norris; sister-in-law, Wanda Dodson (DeeLynn); and several loving nieces and nephews.

Shirley is preceded in passing by her loving husband, Calvin Wayne Hughes; son, Michael Wayne Hughes; father, Arlie Lee Lafolette; mother, Irene Rice Lafolette; brother, Robert Lafolette; sister, Annabelle Lafolette; in-laws, R.C. and Audrey Hughes; brother-in-law, Donald Hughes, and sister-in-law, Martha Hughes; brother and sister in laws, Robert and Ann Hughes. She is also preceded in passing by her many loving pet companions, and her recently lost companion, Oscar.

Shirley never met a stranger. She was a strong pioneer woman who worked offshore in the oilfield. She balanced strength and love, knowing when to be tough and when to be tender. She worked hard and loved hard. Family was everything to Shirley; most especially her two grandsons. They were her everything.
