With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Shirley Ann Akers, who left this world peacefully on April 9, 2026, at the age of 81, in her beloved home of Chauvin, Louisiana. Born on January 23, 1945, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Shirley was a beacon of love and strength for her family and friends throughout her life.

Shirley is survived by her daughters, Shawn and husband Gordon "Red Bird" Guidry and Linda Tillman, Bronwyn McKelvy; Chris Bourque and wife Carla; 10 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren; siblings, Buelah Robinson, Brenda Couvillion, Wallace Couvillion, Stanley Scallan, Alton Scallan.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Johnny Akers, parents,Wallace Couvillion, Hilda Couvillion.

As a dedicated homemaker, Shirley devoted countless hours to caring for her family. Her warm smile and gentle spirit were a source of comfort and inspiration to those who knew her. In her younger days, she found joy in fishing, a pastime she happily shared with her husband, creating lasting memories by the water.

Shirley had a passion for friendly competition, whether it was at the bingo hall, during card games, or while completing her beloved word searches. These simple pleasures brought her happiness and were a testament to her playful nature. Now, she is reunited with her family members who passed before her, and we find solace in knowing she rests in the arms of her Lord and Savior.

A public viewing will be held at Chauvin Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, starting at 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, and will continue on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at 9:00 AM until her Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in St. Elie Cemetery.
