It is with great sadness that our family would announce that Odis Felix LeCompte Sr., 89, of Chauvin, LA, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at 7:04 a.m. A native and lifelong resident of Chauvin, Odis was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and active member of his community and church.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Chauvin on Monday, April 27, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. until service time. A Mass of Catholic Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. (noon), with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
Odis is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Janice Duplantis LeCompte; his children, Blaise LeCompte and companion Debbie, Stacie Belisle and husband Tommy, Kyle LeCompte and wife Gail, Lisa LeCompte, Todd LeCompte and wife Jenni, Wendy Bunn and husband Bryan, Odis LeCompte Jr. and companion Ashley, and Drew LeCompte and wife Brandi; daughter-in-law Eleanor Lirette LeCompte; brothers-in-law Carol Duplantis and James Duplantis; 31 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roosevelt and Celeste Bergeron LeCompte; his son, Lyle LeCompte; his daughter-in-law, Cherie LeCompte; and his siblings, Mercedes Duplantis, Miriam Naquin, Leah Use', Jacob LeCompte, and R. G. "Buddie" LeCompte Jr., along with many beloved brothers- and sisters-in-law.
Odis graduated as valedictorian of St. Francis Boys' School in 1955, where he was also recognized as the most athletic student and most likely to succeed. In 1956, he married the love of his life, whom he affectionately called his "first wife," Janice Duplantis. Together, they built a large and loving family.
While raising his children, Odis remained deeply involved in youth sports and church organizations. He served St. Joseph Catholic Church for many years as an Eucharistic minister and treasurer of the parish council. He also served as treasurer for the beloved Lagniappe on the Bayou festival. Odis was actively involved in the Cursillo movement, where he helped bring many people back to the faith of their roots.
He had a great passion for the outdoors and cherished time at his camps-especially the famous Camp 4X (known as the Schlitz Camp), a longtime landmark along Bayou Terrebonne since the early 1970s. There, family and friends gathered for shrimp boils, card games that lasted for hours, and plenty of laughter. Later, he and Mr. Raymond Tucker purchased the Dos Equis (2X) camp, where they continued the tradition of great meals and lively games of Pedro. (He was famously bold with his bids, no matter what cards he held!)
An avid fisherman and hunter, Odis loved spending time at any camp with good food, family, and friends. He especially enjoyed the thrill of catching redfish from his custom boat, which he proudly named the "Rat Red."
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Russel Henry and Richard Abben for their many years of compassionate care, as well as to Dr. Craig Wade for his recent care. They also wish to recognize the dedicated support from the Terrebonne Council on Aging, Haley Landry, and Terrebonne Home Health Care. In addition, we would like to thank his favorite cutup Roxanne Nelton.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Osteosarcoma Institute through MIB Agents at mibagents.org.
