Norma Marie Thurman

Norma Marie Robert Thurman, 84, a native of Chauvin, LA and a resident of Houma, LA, passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2023.

Family and friends are invited to the visitation at St. Joseph's Church in Chauvin on Monday, November 6, from 10am-11am. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11am with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

Norma returned to Terrebonne Parish in recent years after having lived in Baton Rouge, LA; New Orleans, LA; Atlanta, GA; Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Conroe, Texas. A graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School, she earned her business certification at Meadows Draughon Business College in Baton Rouge, she led a lengthy and successful career in human resources management for the Minerals and Chemicals Group with Cities Service (now CitGo).

Regardless of where she lived, she lived out 1 Corinthians 13. She worked hard to keep her family ties strong by visiting often and treasuring her time with her family. A cancer survivor, Norma knew every moment counted in life and she had an amazing gift for making every moment special, bringing joy to every interaction and creating wonderful memories. In addition to her family and her Catholic faith, she loved bridge, dogs, music, dancing and making people happy.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents, Theophile and Hilda LeBlanc Robert, as well as three of her siblings, Gary Robert, Floyd Robert and Judith Robert Duplantis.

Norma is survived by her husband, Donald Thurman; sister, Marilyn Robert Ammons; stepson Donald Thurman Jr. and his wife Glynnis, and step grandchildren Donald III (Wes), Jack and Sally Thurman. Norma is also survived by her many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to especially thank the Duplantis family, Haydel Hospice and caregivers Ashley Allen, Ayanna Hurst, Candice Williams, Courtney Allen, Cherlyn Brown, Keira Johnson, Tisaiah Williams, JoAnn Davis, and Dru Minchew for their loving support.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests consideration of donations to cancer or Alzheimer support agencies.
