Michael Joseph Guidry, age 73, lost his life to cancer on Thursday, March 31, 2022. Michael was a native of Cut Off and a resident of Houma.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation in the Magnolia Chapel of Chauvin Funeral Home on Monday, April 4, 2022, beginning at 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with the recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume on Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (Cut Off) beginning at 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
Michael is survived by his wife of 50 years, Candace Ann Bush Guidry; daughter, Lindsey A. Guidry; granddaughter and the apple of his eye, Brielle Allen; brother, William Guidry and wife Annette; sister-in-law, Audrey Guidry; brother-in-law, Jim Gisclair. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Lorris Joseph and Hilda Lorraine Guidry; brothers, John and wife Eugenie, David, Welton and wife Shirley Guidry; sister, Rena Mae “Mim” Gisclair.
Mike graduated from Nichols State University with a Bachelors and a Masters Degree. He taught for several years at Lisa Park, H.L. Bourgeois and Caldwell. He worked for his brothers for a short time in the push boat industry. He then went to work for South Louisiana Electric Cooperative Association (SLECA) and WST Electric for a few years. At SLECA he obtained the position of General Manager. He represented Louisiana on the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association Board (NRECA) serving in various capacities and rising to President. He was awarded the Clyde T. Ellis Award which is the highest accomplishment awarded by NRECA. He had a passion for the people of Rural America, especially the people of SLECA. Mike was an extraordinary man with many accomplishments. Above all, he loved and cherished his family dearly. Mike leaves a beautiful legacy behind to be reunited with his family who passed before him. Mike is now at rest in the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Mike would like to thank his longtime family doctor, Dr. Mark Walker, his oncologist, Dr. Manthri, his radiologist, Dr. Brown, Gene and Leah Bergeron, Mike and June Moore, Douglas and Connie Hemstreet, the infusion nurses, Amy Boudreaux, Tiara, and the wonderful people of Mary Bird Perkins both Houma and Gonzales and Haydel Hospice especially nurses, Angie, Patty, Christie, and Robin.
