Melva Pitre Smith, 96 a native of Grand Caillou and resident of Chauvin, LA passed on March 27, 2026 surrounded by her loving family.

Friends and family are invited to visitation on Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at Chauvin Funeral Home from 5:00pm until 9:00pm and visitation will continue on Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Chauvin, LA from 10:00am until service time. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Chauvin, LA at 12:00pm/Noon with burial following services in the church cemetery.

Melva is survived by her daughters, Sheila Smith Thibodeaux and husband Lloyd, Ramona Smith Neil, Jeannie Smith Neil and husband Brent Sr., Denise Smith DeHart and husband Reginald Sr., sons, Patrick Smith and wife Bernardine, and Normand Smith Jr. and wife Kelly; brothers, Louis "Chocky" Pitre, Kenneth Scott "ShouShou"; sister, Bernadine LeBoeuf; grandchildren, Mark, Jason Thibodeaux, Leslie Pierce, Ryan Neil, Nikki Matherne, Danielle, Brent "BJ" Neil Jr. , Sarah Martin, Torie Smith, Stephanie Domangue, Amber LeBoeuf; great grandchildren, Eliza, Dru Thibodeaux, Bailey, Kade Doiron, Alyssa, Charlotte Neil, James "Jim", Jay Matherne, Hunter DeHart, Kinlie, Addison Martin, Karlie, Scarlett Domangue, Luke LeBoeuf and one on the way Easton LeBoeuf; step-great grandchildren, Ayden, Kiley, Heylie Littell and great-great Grandchildren, Harper Vizier, Paxton, Elijah Doiron.

Melva is preceded in passing by her husband, Normand "T-Man" Smith Sr.; parents, Louis Sr. and Emily Scott Pitre; son-in-law, Charles "Poncho" Neil; grandson Reginald "Reggie" DeHart Jr.; great grand-daughter Destinee Blanchard; sister, Margie Thibodeaux; brother, Bennett Pitre. Melva was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a faithful parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Chauvin, LA. Melva loved cooking and baking for her family. She always looked forward to her Sunday gatherings with her children and grandchildren. Melva was a devoted Catholic by attending daily Mass as well as her weekend Mass. Melva had a deep devotion to Our Lady and would pray the Rosary daily. She taught religious education for several years. Melva served our God with her full heart and compassion for him. She was an avid reader and enjoyed cross stitches and word search books.
