Melva Jane Vizier Richard

Melva Jane Vizier Richard, age 88, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 18, 2026. She was a native of Galliano, La and a resident of Houma, La.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at Annunziata Catholic Church on Wednesday, April 22, 2026 from 9:30 AM until service time at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Holy Rosary Cemetery.

Melva is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Manuel Peter Richard; son, John David Richard; daughters, Angela Ann Richard, Nicole Ann Richard; grandchildren, Michael Richard, Lauren Richard; great-grandchildren, Elijah Richard, Jonan Richard, Kieran Richard; brother, Andrew Vizier; sister, Ceda Richard.

Melva is preceded in death by her son, James Michael Richard; parents, Otess Vizier and Alcedia Smith Vizier; brothers, Amedee Vizier, Ernest Vizier; sisters, Otecia Vizier Bonvillain, Patsy Vizier.

Melva cherished the simple joys of life. She found happiness in doing word searches, crosswords, and indulging her love of cooking and reading.

 Her true passion lay in nature, where she spent countless hours gardening in her flower beds, tending to her yard, and delighting in the beauty of hummingbirds alongside her husband, Manuel.

Family was at the heart of Melva's life. Her legacy is woven into the memories she created and shared with each of them. Each evening, Melva faithfully tuned in to watch Jeopardy at 6:00 PM, a comforting ritual that brought her joy.

Deeply rooted in her faith, Melva practiced her devotion daily, reciting her rosary and prayers, finding strength and solace in her spiritual beliefs.

Melva Jane Richard will be remembered for her kindness, unyielding spirit, and the love she generously shared with everyone around her.
