Mel Sanders

Mel Marie Sanders, age 83, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at 8:05 am. She was a native and a resident of Houma.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at Chauvin Funeral Home, Inc. on Thursday, February 1, 2018 beginning at 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm and Friday, February 2, 2018 beginning at 8:00 am until 10:30 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am at St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church. Burial will be held in St. Francis de Sales #2 Cemetery.

Mel is survived by her sons, James Paul Sanders, and Kevin Sanders and wife, Rachel; daughters, Christie S. Conrad, and Lisa S. Banks and husband, Jimmy; grandchildren, Nikki Thibodeaux, Stacie Bourg, Jamie Domangue, Deana Giordano, Caleb Sanders, Brian Lirette, Jared Ellithorp, John Rabun Jr., Sydney Rabun, Brock Sanders and Edie Sanders; 9 great-grandchildren.

Mel is preceded in death by her husband, Carroll Joseph Sanders; parents, Sidney James, Sr. and Marie Chauvin McElroy; brothers, Fay Sr., Sidney "Bay" Jr., Hayes "Banny" Sr., and Charles McElroy; sister, Mildred M. Duplantis; great-grandson, Michael Domangue.

Mel was retired from First National Bank of Houma. She enjoyed reading, spending time with family and was an avid Saints fan. She taught religion classes at St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church.
