Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mary Nell Callahan, a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, who departed this life on July 6, 2026, at the age of 72. Born on April 19, 1954, in Westwego, Louisiana, Mary dedicated her life to her family and instilled in them the values of love, kindness, and simplicity.

Mary was a devoted homemaker whose greatest joy came from spending time with her children. Her legacy extends to many grandchildren, whom she adored spoiling with love and attention. Throughout her life, Mary embraced the simple pleasures, whether it was indulging in trips to the casino, engaging in spirited games of bingo, or enjoying a round of cards with family and friends.

Mary's warmth and vibrant spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She found happiness in the smallest of things and cherished her connections with those dear to her heart. Long phone conversations with good friends brought her joy, and she treasured every moment spent with her loved ones.

She is survived by her sons Joseph Desire Callahan Jr. (Kacey Callahan) and Kelly James Callahan (Dawn Callahan); her daughters Cheryl Ann Parfait (Kelly Parfait), Janell Marie Luke (Lou Creppel), and Kim Marie Guidroz (Kent Guidroz Jr.); her brothers Calvin "CT" Punch Sr., Robert "Bobby" Punch, Allen "Fatso" Punch, and Alvin "Pee Wee" Punch; and her 13 grandchildren (Tiffany Parfait, Trent Parfait, Trey Parfait, Gavin Luke, Jayda Luke, Kadon Luke, Kora Guidroz, Kain Guidroz, Austin Guidry, Sage Guidry, Carter Callahan, Leia Fontenot, and Mariah Callahan).

Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband Joseph Desire Callahan Sr.; her parents Alex Joseph Punch Sr. and Lydia Marie Lebeouf Punch; her sisters Geraldine "Jean" Gros, Dora Jordan, Nancy Dehart, and Shirley Dumond; and her brothers Gerald "Jerry" Punch, Alex Punch Jr., Joffrey Punch, Ronald Punch, and Donald Punch.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a visitation in honor of Mary on Thursday, July 9, 2026, in Chauvin Funeral Home's Magnolia Chapel from 9:00 a.m. until the Funeral Service at 12:00 p.m. She will be laid to rest following the services in St. Eloi Cemetery.
