Kathleen Marie Cuneo

Mounted on eagle’s wings, Kathleen Cuneo soared into her next life on the morning of November 30, 2025. At age 83, her current life came to an end, and her eternal life began. She was a native and current resident of Houma.

Family and friends are invited to attend funeral services in her honor at St. Gregory Catholic Church on Thursday, December 4, 2025. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Interment will be at St. Francis de Sales Cemetery #2.

A graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School, Kathleen was always interested in further learning. She attended Hotel Dieu in New Orleans to become an RN. She also went to Northeastern University in Monroe (now University of Louisiana at Monroe) for additional education. She also completed a continuing education program at Emory University in Atlanta. All these studies were related to her nursing career.

A devout Catholic and deeply religious, Kathleen, at one time, felt a calling to the religious life. She was a member of the Franciscan Religious Community for ten years. Even after she left the order, she still desired to serve the Lord and went on a mission trip to Haiti. Kathleen wanted to be able to perform her lay ministry duties at a high level, so she enrolled in the Limex pastorial studies program from which she earned a Master’s of Theology.

For six years she helped the Houma-Thibodaux Diocese in the Office of Religious Education with a focus on small faith communities. At St. Gregory Parish, she ministered as a lector, commentator, and Eucharistic minister for the liturgy and for the homebound. She also assisted the pastor by serving as President of the Parish Council.

Kathleen loved her 41-year nursing career. She was very dedicated to her profession and was responsible for starting the Wound Care Center at Terrebonne General Medical Center. She enjoyed training hospital staff in appropriate wound care. Once she retired, she was often recognized by someone she encountered at the hospital - patients, other nurses, doctors – all who remembered how much she cared about providing good treatment.

In addition to her church ministries and her nursing, she had many other interests that kept her busy. She was an excellent photographer, especially capturing flowers, butterflies and other nature scenes. Woodworking was another passion, building bird houses, bug boxes, nativity cut-outs and almost anything she could create from wood. She also loved to travel and took many trips with her friends. She was fascinated with the writings of St. Hildegard of Bingen, a German nun, so she went to Germany to “walk in her shoes.” Birdwatching was another hobby, especially catching glimpses of her beloved eagles, one of God’s most splendid creatures she believed.

Kathleen was a loving aunt to her nieces, Ramie Hebert (Kevin), Rhonda Boudreaux (Keith) and nephew, Richard Arceneaux, who survive her. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Mason Arceneaux and sister-in-law, Susan Clark; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her parents, Wilson Sr. and Catherine Cuneo, preceded her in death as well as her brother, Wilson Cuneo, Jr., and her sister, Deloria Arceneaux.

The family wishes to thank Terrebonne Place Assisted Living facility for the care provided to Kathleen for the last three years; and Haydel Memorial Hospice for the care and support given during her final weeks.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers that donations be made in her name to St. Gregory Church for the prayer garden.

Chauvin Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Kathleen Cuneo.
