Joyce Ann Fulford

On September 2, 2023, Joyce Ann Fulford, of Houma, LA, died peacefully in her home with her daughter, Johanna, her friend, Laura, and her two dogs, Oscar and Ruby by her side.

For over 50 years, she served her clients with love and joy through her beauty shop, Real Styles Real People. She wants you all to know, "It was a pleasure doing their hair. It was an honor when they came." You all were so much more than clients to her. You were her friends. You were her family.

To her dogs, Oscar and Ruby, every day she wants them to hear, "You are my family. You are my life."
When asked what she would say at her funeral if she could, she simply replied, "It's good enough."

She lived her life to honor God in everything she did. She loved the Lord, her clients, her dogs, her friends, and her family; but most of all, she loved her grandbabies, Asher and Yelena. 

As much as she loved the idea of sitting straight up in her salon chair to stare everybody down at her funeral, she loved the idea of helping solve crimes after her death even more. She has chosen to donate her body to the FOREST at Western Carolina University.

She is preceded in death by her grandmother, who raised her as her own, Ida Hibbard; her mother, Lorraine McClentic; and her siblings, Joel Hibbard, Jane Rowland, LC Lynchard, Mary Elizabeth Waite, Thomasine Hibbard, John Fulford, Joel Fulford.

She is survived by her children, Kevin Wayne Vowell, Perry Travis Vowell, and Johanna Michelle Matthiesen; her grandbabies, Asher Lagarde and Yelena Lagarde; Her siblings, Bob Hibbard, Ed Hibbard, Frances Ray, Joann Cavaness, and her niece and nephew, Tracey Cavaness McElroy and John Cavaness.

Her memorial service will be held at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, on Saturday, September 16, 2023. Visitation will start at 9:00 am, followed by a eulogy, and Mass will start at 11:00 am.
