John Darwin Morris, age 79, born in DeRidder and lifelong resident of Houma, La., passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2026.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Gray, La.

John is survived by his sons, Matt and Richard Morris; his brother Robert Morris, and his wife, Linda; his sister, Claudia Morris; his brother-in-law, Bob Fitzhugh and his wife Jan, of Charlotte, North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in passing by his wife, Barbara Hudson Fitzhugh Morris; his son, John F. Morris; his parents, Hershal "Pug" Morris and Medora Burrow Morri; and his brother-in-law, Jimmy Fitzhugh.

A proud graduate of Nicholls State University, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and Economics, he was also a member of Delta Sigma Pi. He was president/owner of Exploration Supplies of Houma. He dedicated many years to education, teaching both middle school and elementary school students in Bayou Black and Dularge. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, gardening, and traveling. A devoted man of faith, he faithfully served as a deacon at Mulberry Baptist Church and shared his love of music as a member of the church choir. He will be remembered for his strong Christian values, his commitment to his community, and the many lives he touched through his service, kindness, and friendship.
