It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of John James Baldone, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who departed this life on May 30, 2026, at the age of 89.
Born on August 31, 1936, in Birmingham, Alabama, John lived a life filled with love, laughter, and treasured memories. He ultimately made his home in Houma, Louisiana, where he built a legacy of faith, family, and service.
John was a devoted family man whose love for his wife, Anna "Susie" Baldone, shone brightly throughout their 62 years of marriage. He is survived by his beloved wife, Susie; his son, Damon Baldone; his daughter, Dana Norman, and son-in-law, Chris Norman; and his cherished grandchildren, Gabrielle Norman and Landon Norman. His unwavering commitment to his family left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
John's legacy is one of strength, kindness, humility, and a profound appreciation for the simple joys of life, especially the time he spent with his beloved grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Calogero Baldone and Mariontonia Baldone; his siblings, Virginia Grisanti (Frank), Charles Baldone (Susie), Frank Baldone (Helon), Samuel Baldone (Rosa), Joseph Baldone, M.D., and Rosalie Turner (Richard); and his beloved pets, Bella and Cajun.
A proud alumnus of the University of Alabama, John earned a bachelor's degree and enjoyed a successful 30-year career as a Collection Officer at First National Bank, where he was respected by colleagues and clients alike for his integrity, professionalism, and diligence. Following his retirement from banking, he devoted his time and talents to managing the family's real estate businesses.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, John was deeply involved in his community and parish. His contributions to the St. Joseph Italian Society, the St. Francis de Sales Cathedral Choir, and Les Amis de la Chanson reflected his love for music, fellowship, and service. One of his proudest musical achievements was performing at Carnegie Hall with his beloved choir.
A devoted Catholic, John dedicated countless hours to St. Francis de Sales Cathedral, where he served as a choir member, cantor, usher, and faithfully locked the church each evening. He also took great pride in serving as Leukemia Chairman, generously dedicating his time and energy to helping others and making a positive difference in his community.
John's warm spirit, infectious smile, and joyful presence brought light to every gathering. He will be profoundly missed by all who knew him. His larger-than-life personality, unwavering faith, and boundless enthusiasm for life were truly remarkable. As he now rests in the presence of his Lord and Savior, we take comfort in knowing that he is singing with the angels.
During this time of reflection, we invite all who loved John to join us in celebrating his life by sharing stories, memories, and the lessons he imparted. His memory will continue to inspire us, and his spirit will forever live on in our hearts.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Brian Matherne, Dr. Gregory Maidoh, and Dr. Janeiro Goffin, along with their dedicated staffs, for the compassionate care they provided. The family would also like to thank the Bayou Cane Fire Department, Karen Calhoun, Joe Clement, Father Paul Bergeron, Patricia Whipple, Janice Stark, Mark Trahan, Ashley Dauzat, St. Francis de Sales Cathedral, and caregivers Brenda Woods, Stephanie Woods, Betty Arcement, and Patrice Savoy for their kindness, support, and friendship.
