Jerry Hugh Schwab, 90, earned his wings surrounded by his adoring family on July 20, 2026. Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Susan Heck Schwab, his grandson, Taylor Patrick Sullivan, his parents, Sidney Paul Schwab and Aimee' Landry Schwab, his beloved sister, Fernan Schwab Richard, and his brothers, Huey James Schwab and Donald Paul Schwab.

Jerry is survived by his four children, Carl "Tracy" Schwab (Susan), Danna Schwab Adams (John), Gregory John Schwab (Terri), and Catherine Ann Schwab (Allen LeBlanc). He is also survived by eleven grandchildren: Lora "Lollie" Latham Schwab (Bud Wiemann), James Hunter Schwab (Ashley), Abby Catherine Schwab, Emily Schwab Parks (Drew), Molly Schwab Pierce (Jeremy), Mary Margaret Schwab, Claire Therese Schwab, Anne Frances Schwab (Jack Johnson), Adam Schwab Ellender, Mark Andrew Ellender (Breanna) and Susan Ellender Bond (John Robert); and eight great- grandchildren: Andrew Michael and Mary Cate Parks, Emma and Thomas Pierce, John Michael Hidalgo, Eloise Gil, Timothy Jude Wiemann, and Penelope Schwab, with a ninth due in November, Adela Claire Bond.

He is also survived by his loving sister, Cindy Ann Schwab, his sisters in law, Joyce Chaisson Schwab Foret, Nancy Defatta Schwab, and Amelia Clement Heck, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Jerry was born on June 4,1936, in Little Choupic (Labadieville), Louisiana. He graduated from Thibodaux High School and then entered the United States Army, where he was stationed at Fort Ouachuca, Arizona and played on the football team. After serving in the Army, he was recruited to play football at Southeastern Louisiana University. While there, he also played on the baseball team. After graduating from Southeastern, he attended L.S.U. Law School, graduating in 1964. While in law school, he married the love of his life, Susan Alma Heck, and they were married for 60 years. After graduating from law school, he moved with his young family to Houma where he began his legal career working for his wife's uncle, Dickie Talbot, who was serving in the Louisiana Legislature at the time. He was an Assistant District Attorney for many years and ultimately entered private practice, practicing law in our community for 44 years before retiring at the age of 72.

Jerry was a great family man and a loving father. He was a deeply religious and spiritual person and treasured his family and friends. Another of his passions was playing golf, and he was a member of Ellendale Country Club for many years. He also loved Mardi Gras and was in the Krewe of Houmas, serving on the Board of Directors for many years. His friends and family will always remember him as the life of the party, the "Dancing Bear", "Jay," and "Sipouse." He loved to work in the yard and spent his retired years watering the flowers, cooking, and spending time with family. He and his wife enjoyed many wonderful travels with their friends.

The family would like to thank his special "podna", Dr. Dickie Haydel for years of care, friendship, and golf. They would also like to give a big thank you to Ellery Domangue who took care of Jerry for many years, and Haydel Memorial Hospice for the care provided to him in his last year of life, especially Patti, Christy, Jody, Nathaniel, Keith and everyone at the Suites of Sugar Mill, especially Samantha, Pat, Shawanda, Kyle, Kiara, Emma, Candace, and Troy who cared for him with love and compassion.

A funeral is scheduled for Friday, July 24, 2026, at St Francis de Sales Catholic Church with visitation beginning at 8:00 a.m. until the military ceremony at 9:30 a.m. followed by eulogies and then Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am. A burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery #2.
