James is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Ezel Bergeron Cherry; parents, Sam and Josephine Cherry; brother, Frank Cherry; sisters, Theresa Rodrigue, Evelyn LeCompte, Mary Harrington.

James was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, teacher, and friend whose life was defined by love, service, and a deep appreciation for the world around him. He cherished his family above all else, finding joy in every moment spent with them whether gathered at home, traveling across the United States in his camper, or sharing stories around a campfire.

A man of many passions, James embraced life with enthusiasm. He loved camping, dancing, and good music, and he carried a special fondness for country western tunes. His musical talent and leadership touched countless lives. He founded the Terrebonne Community Band and once performed in his own rock 'n' roll group, The Sparklers. Even at sea, he continued to share his gift, playing in community bands during his travels. Cruises, road trips, and new adventures were among his greatest delights.

James lived his faith deeply. A devout Catholic and longtime parishioner of St. Bernadette Catholic Church, he served with humility and dedication as a Eucharistic Minister, Commentator, and Lecturer. His commitment to service extended beyond the church walls he was a proud 4th Degree Knight, embodying the values of charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism.

Those who knew James remember him as kind-hearted, generous, and steadfast. He taught not only in classrooms but through his example showing others how to live with gratitude, compassion, and joy. His legacy lives on in the music he shared, the faith he practiced, and the love he gave so freely.

James will be forever remembered, forever missed, and forever cherished by the many lives he touched.
