Obituary of Gloria Billiot Pierre

Gloria Billiot Pierre, 79, a native of Bayou Dularge, Louisiana, and a resident of Houma, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at 4:10 p.m., surrounded by her family.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation at Chauvin Funeral Home on Thursday, July 30, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. A Ministry Service will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by burial in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery #2.

She is survived by her beloved husband of fifty-nine years (together 63), John M. Pierre Sr.; her children, John M. Pierre Jr. (Lori M.) and Sarah Pierre Russell (Harold Jr.); her brothers, Paul Billiot Sr. (Doris), Jessie Billiot Sr. (Rachel), Norman Billiot (Brenda), and Phillip Billiot; her sisters, Evelina Hubbard, Laura Kingen (Tim), Linda Fitch (Tommy), and Priscilla LaCoste (Travis).

She was also the grandmother of her "bonus" grandchildren, Kelly Russell, Harold Russell III, and Ethan Russell, and was blessed with two great-bonus grandchildren, Ellina Matherne and Raelynn Russell. She is also lovingly remembered by Rachel A., Hayden P., Erica Jo, and Peyton T., along with many nieces, nephews, GodChildren and extended family members, and friends.

Gloria was welcomed into Heaven by her parents, Camille Billiot and Mary Ezima Parfait Billiot; her brothers, Harry Billiot Sr., Junius Billiot Sr., and Willie Billiot; and her sisters, Josephine Parfait, Mae Gregoire, and Leona Sevin.

To know Gloria was to know a woman of quiet strength, gentle kindness, and steadfast faith. Though soft-spoken, she possessed a powerful presence. She lived her life as an example that being a woman never limits what can be accomplished through determination and faith in Christ. She built not only a strong home but also a firm spiritual foundation that continues to inspire her family.

She was a true Louisiana woman through and through. Gloria wasn't afraid to catch an alligator, skin a deer, or skin a nutria with the best of them.

If there was one thing everyone knew about Gloria, it was her legendary old-fashioned sweet potato pies. When Gloria baked, she didn't make one or two pies. Gloria and Melvin would often bake at least one hundred sweet potato pies and tarts a la bouillon pies at a time, carefully preparing each one to give away as gifts to family, friends, neighbors, and anyone the Lord placed on her heart.

Above all, Gloria leaves behind a testimony of grace, perseverance, and unconditional love that will continue to live on in those she cherished.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Melissa Farias and the nurses and staff of Ochsner Medical Center - Main Campus, as well as the Palliative Care Team, for the exceptional care and compassion shown to Gloria.

They also wish to express their deepest appreciation to Helen "Evelina" Hubbard and Norman Billiot for their extraordinary love and support and faithfully walking beside them even in emergency situations.

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."
