Elvera "Vita" Poiencot

March 28, 1931 — November 23, 2022

Elvera (Vita) Fazzio Poiencot, 91, a native of Houma, died in the loving care of her family, on Wednesday, November 23, 2022.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation in the Magnolia Chapel of Chauvin Funeral Home on Monday, December 5, 2022, beginning at 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. A Liturgy of the Word Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow in St. Eloi Cemetery.

Vita was born on March 28, 1931, to Edna Marcel Fazio and Carlo John Fazio, Sr., both of Houma. Vita is survived by her children, Pam Harvey (Keith), Rosalind Haney (Mike), Russell Poiencot, Jr. (Arlene), Guy Poiencot (Phyllis), Terry Poiencot (Vickie) and Lisa Hebert (Andre); her sisters, Patricia Breaux and Maxine Poiencot; her brother, Thomas Fazzio; her 13 grandchildren, Ryan and Shawn Harvey, Thomas and Brian Haney, Rusty Poiencot, Brad and Lauren Poiencot, Terry (T. J.) and Kristy Poiencot, Taylor and Hunta Hoob, and Chelsie Hebert; and 23 great grandchildren.  Vita was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Anthony Poiencot, Sr., her parents, her sisters, Joyce Claire Fazzio and Marie Louise Roy, her brother, Carlo John Fazzio, Jr., and her daughter-in-law, Eileen Poiencot.

It is rare when you can say someone was as beautiful on the inside as they were on the outside.  But this was true of Vita.  She was genuine and generous with her kindness.  A loving wife and mother to her 6 children, and a second mother to our neighborhood.  She loved her life, her books and TV, her lipstick.  Her 20th great grandchild bears her name, so "Vita" lives on in a darling 3-year-old and will be remembered forever by all who knew and loved her.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Vita's memory to the Regional Military Museum in Houma, where Vita and Russell served as founding members and volunteers.

We wish to express gratitude for the skilled and kind support of the staff at Haydel Memorial Hospice, who kept our mother safe and comfortable in her final days.

Chauvin Funeral Home and Crematory are honored to serve the family of Vita Poiencot.
