Obituary

Elaine Antoinette Fanguy Bueche passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026 at the age of 95 at the Little Sisters of the Poor Sacred Heart Residence in Mobile, AL. Born on March 11, 1931 in Humphreys, LA, she lived a life rich with love and devotion, leaving a lasting legacy in the hearts of family and friends.

Elaine was a 1948 graduate of Terrebonne High School. She was a proud founding member of St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church in Houma, LA, where she served as an extraordinary minister and LEM member. Elaine graduated from beauty school a few years after the birth of her 10th child and became a talented hairdresser. For 30 years, she owned and operated Elaine's Beauty Salon, where she transformed not just hair, but the lives of her clients with prayer, humor and wisdom.

Elaine was an accomplished cook and was known for her award-winning pralines that delighted family and friends. During her retirement, she became an amateur artist, painting scenery of country landscapes, flowers and wildlife.

Elaine is survived by her 10 children: Kerry Francis Bueche (Jan) of Houma, Laura Faye Bueche Landry (Roy) of Houma, Michael John Bueche (Sandra Diane) of Houma, Philip Gerard Bueche (Cathy) of Houma, Gene Thomas Bueche (Mary Catherine) of Houma, Sister Ellen Anne of the Cross of Mobile, AL, Christopher Jude Bueche (Linda) of Houma, Mary Elaine Bueche Voisin (Grant) of Houma, John Anthony Bueche (Gina) of Houma, and Carl Matthew Bueche of Houma; her siblings Lois Fanguy Fakier Morse, Charles Joseph Fanguy, and Iris Fanguy Blum; 28 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

Elaine was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years, Lawrence Jefferson Bueche, Jr.; her parents Ivy John Fanguy and Adele Brunet Fanguy; and her siblings Donald Anthony Fanguy and Evelyn Fanguy Banker.

A mass celebrating Elaine's remarkable life will be held at St Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 12:00 PM. Prior to mass, a public visitation will take place at the church starting at 9:30 AM with eulogy and testimonials starting at 11:05 AM. Following the service, Elaine will be laid to rest at St Francis de Sales Cemetery #2.
