With heavy hearts yet joyous remembrance, we announce the passing of Earl Joseph Hicks, who departed this life on August 4, 2026, at the age of 85. Born on May 2, 1941, in Bastrop, Texas, and moved to Houma when he was fourteen years old. Earl lived a remarkable life filled with love, laughter, and dedication to his family and community. Earl is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Judith Blanchard Leckelt Hicks; daughter, Kellie Hicks Gaudet (Emmet); step-children, Richard Leckelt, Mitchell Leckelt (Laura), Catherine Castillo, Scott Leckelt (Beth); Lindsay Calmes, Tyler Smith, Caitlin Hebert, Krystle Leckelt, Lindsay Leckelt Davis, Alicia Brand, Clay Street, Carlie Castillo; great grandchildren, Warren Smith, Mason Davis, Eli, Evangeline, and Shelby Brand, Clay, Rhonnie, and Ryleigh Street, Giddon Earl Cooley and one more on the way; sister, Yvonne Montz; sister-in-law, Toni Hicks. Earl was preceded in death by his parents, Felda Hicks, Lucille Marmillion Hicks; brother, Gilbert Hicks. Earl was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Judith Blanchard Leckelt Hicks, whom he married on December 28, 1996. Their bond was a testament to love's enduring strength, filled with cherished moments and shared adventures. Earl's love for his family was evident in everything he did; he was a humble and honest man who cherished the simple joys of life. An accomplished athlete, Earl played football for Terrebonne High School and went on to represent McNeese University, showcasing his passion for the sport as an ironman player. His journey didn't stop there; he even played professional football in the Canadian Football League, leaving a legacy that would inspire many. Earl's career spanned numerous passions, from earning a Bachelor's Degree in Horticulture to working in the sugarcane industry before dedicating 30 years of his life as Administrator/Director at Houma Airport. His unwavering commitment and reliability earned him the love and respect of his colleagues and community. Outside of work, Earl was a man of the outdoors, finding joy in tending to his yard, fishing with friends at his beloved camp, and nurturing the animals that brought him happiness. He was known for his thoughtful nature, and those who had the privilege to know him will remember him for his integrity, hard work, and devotion to his community. A visitation will be held at Chauvin Funeral Home on Saturday, August 8, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. As we reflect on Earl's life, let us gather to share stories, laughter, and perhaps a few tears as we celebrate the incredible man he was and continue to carry his spirit in our hearts.
