With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Donald Joseph Rhodes, Sr., a cherished member of our community, who departed this life on February 22, 2026, at the age of 92. Born on October 23, 1933, in Houma, Louisiana, Donald was the beloved son of a talented boat builder, who instilled in him a strong work ethic and a passion for craftsmanship.
Donald proudly served his country as a U.S. Navy veteran during the Korean War, enlisting at the young age of 17. His service to his nation laid the foundation for a life dedicated to community and resilience. After his military service, he became a pioneer lineman with South Central Bell, being one of the first in Terrebonne Parish. Donald dedicated many years to his career, ultimately retiring from South Central Bell, AT&T, and FEMA, marking a legacy of commitment to service and stability in an evolving industry.
Beyond his professional life, Donald was a man of many talents and interests. He enjoyed the great outdoors, often engaging in hunting, fishing, and golfing during his younger years. He took great pride in his home and found joy in tending to his vegetable garden, showcasing his inclination as a true jack of all trades.
Donald is survived by his loving children, Stephanie Kramer (Bobby), Donald Rhodes, Jr. (Karen), Randall Rhodes (Jenny), Brent Rhodes (Heidi), and Julie Rhodes; nine grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. He is also survived by multiple step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren that he treated as his own; His legacy will live on through them, as well as the many lives he touched throughout his community.
Donald was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years Rose Mary Boquet Rhodes; parents, Elvince Rhodes and Fannie Rhodes; siblings, Clifton Rhodes, Roger Rhodes, Ann Bourgeois, and Doris Brown.
Funeral services to honor Donald will be held on February 25, 2026, at Chauvin Funeral Home. A public viewing will take place from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. He will be laid to rest thereafter in Magnolia Cemetery. We encourage all who knew him to join us in celebrating a life well-lived and to share in the memories that will forever keep his spirit alive in our hearts.
Rest in peace, Donald Joseph Rhodes, Sr. You will be deeply missed, but your legacy of kindness and service will never be forgotten.
