It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David "Bart" Dagenhardt, who left us on January 1, 2026, at the age of 71. Bart was born on March 5, 1954, in Houma, Louisiana, and spent his life dedicated to his family and career. He resided in Theriot, Louisiana, where he built a legacy of hard work and devotion that will always be remembered.
Bart was a proud and diligent heavy equipment operator in the construction industry, known affectionately as "the hardest working person you've ever met." He poured his heart into his work, spending ten years with the Terrebonne Levee & Conservation District. He later established a family business, DAG Enterprises, alongside his son, Kris, dedicating over two decades to its success. His reputation for punctuality and reliability-never calling in sick-spoke volumes about his character and commitment.
A family man at his core, Bart cherished his time with his children, Kris and Kelly, as well as his beloved grandchildren, Lukas and Lucy, who brought immense joy into his life. "Papa Bart" was a constant source of love and support for them, creating memories that will last a lifetime.
When not working, Bart found solace in the great outdoors, often embarking on hunting and fishing trips. He enjoyed quieter moments at home, relaxing while watching classic Western shows like Gunsmoke and The Lone Ranger. He was also a devoted fan of the New Orleans Saints, cheering them on.
Bart is survived by his son Kris Dagenhardt (Hope); his daughter Kelly Viar (Josh); his grandchildren Lukas and Lucy Viar, and Kayli Bagala; sisters Kandy Theriot, Donna John, and Lois Autin (Joe); brothers Glynn Dagenhardt (Jeannie), and Bryan Dagenhardt (Kristy), and several nieces & nephews.
Bart was preceded in death by his parents Lloyd and Yvonne Dagenhardt, and brother Patrick Dagenhardt.
To honor his memory, a visitation will be held in Magnolia Chapel at Chauvin Funeral Home on January 10, 2026, at 9:00 am followed by a memorial service at 11:00 am.
As we reflect on David's life, let us remember him for his unwavering dedication to family and work, for the joy he found in simple pleasures, and for the love he shared with everyone around him. He will be deeply missed but forever cherished in our hearts.
