Obituary

Charles Lloyd Chauvin, born June 6, 1942, from Houma, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on June 8,2026 surrounded by the love of his family. He was the son of Willie "Bill" and Imogene Whisenhunt Chauvin, and the beloved brother of Linda (Norman) Ledet and Beverly (Jack) Newman and his brother, Leroy Chauvin.

Charles was married to the late Linda Lapeyrouse Chauvin, with whom he shared three beautiful children. He will now be reunited with the love of his life.

A proud graduate of Terrebonne High School, Class of 1960, Charles entered the United States Navy immediately after graduation. He honorably served four years as a 3rd Class Machinist Repairman during the Vietnam era. His dedication to service and exceptional mechanical skill shaped the rest of his life's work.

After returning home, Charles attended trade school for welding and later fulfilled a lifelong dream by owning and operating Chauvin Machine Shop on Grand Caillou Road. His craftsmanship, work ethic, and reputation for precision earned him deep respect throughout the community.

Charles was a man of many talents and quiet passions. He built and operated model boats and airplanes, finding joy in the detail and creativity of the craft. He loved to fish, to spend time outdoors, and to share peaceful moments with his loyal furry companion, Bella. He also treasured time with his grand-dog, Mila, whose presence always brought him comfort and laughter.

Above all else, Charles's greatest pride was his family. He leaves behind his three devoted children-Todd Chauvin of Bourg, LA; Charmaine Chauvin of Bayou Blue, LA; and Erika Chauvin of Houma, LA-each of whom carried a special place in his heart and reflected the strength and values he lived by.

He also embraced three bonus children: Allyson Frederiksen, Louie Broussard, and Petey Broussard.

Charles leaves behind five grandchildren-Madelyn (Gavin) Pitre, Lillian Pitre, Olivia Rhodes, Nicholas Chauvin, and Kaden Chauvin-and one great-granddaughter, Ayla Kate Pitre, who brought him immeasurable joy.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Linda Lapeyrouse Chauvin, his parents, Willie "Bill" and Imogene Whisenhunt Chauvin, his brother, Leroy Chauvin, and his best friend, Mark Trosclair.

Charles was a stern man with old-school beliefs, a steady presence, and a mind shaped by discipline and hard work. Yet behind that firmness was remarkable talent and a gift for creativity that showed in everything he built, repaired, or imagined. His hands were skilled, his standards were high, and his way of doing things-his way-left a mark on everyone who knew him. His legacy lives on in the craftsmanship he perfected, the lessons he taught, and the family who carries his strength forward.

A visitation in honor of Charles will be held on June 15th at St. Ann Catholic Church in Bourg, LA, beginning at 9:00am. A funeral service will follow at 11:00am, with burial to take place in the church cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and celebrate the life of a man who meant so much to so many.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Brian Matherne and his staff, Dr. Midoh, Dr. Abben, Nick, Jill, and Sara with Amedysis Home Health Care, Terrebonne Council on Aging, Debra, Keith, Jody, and Danielle with Haydel Hospice, his beloved sitters Kim, Christine, and Shardel, and Chauvin Funeral Home for the exceptional care, compassion, and support provided to Charles and the entire family during this time.
