Powers, Marvin Victor Marmande Sr., Marian and Hosea Doucet, Ralph Trahan, Dr. William Augustus Marmande Sr., Marlene Moory Marmande, Susan (Boudreaux) and Lu Christ, and Gary Boudreaux.
Born on September 27, 1938 he was a lifetime resident of Houma, LA in the community of Bayou Dularge. He graduated from St. Francis Boys High School and from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in agriculture.
Burt was the youngest of six children. His early life was filled with activities on the family farm and its Golden Rod dairy, lots of siblings and cousins, and much time at the family camp on Grand Isle. He met his wife of 65 years during college, and together they moved back to Dularge to begin many years of farming sugar cane and soybeans. He loved this work and his loyal crew. Beginning in the mid 80's, he began working for AFLAC. He was recognized many times regionally and as the top company-wide salesman. His genuine interest, attention, and concern for his customers led to lifelong friendships and to helping them navigate challenging times.
Whether it was traveling to the duck camp or to open water for fishing, Burt's face was constantly smiling when on any boat...it was a calm and content grin. His love of the natural resources of our state and the time spent with his brothers, family, and friends was always cherished. He loved his large extended family. Even with so many nieces and nephews - whether they lived near or far - he maintained a special relationship with every one of them. And they all have great stories to tell about Uncle Burt.
Burt never met a stranger. He felt at ease with people from all backgrounds, and they with him. He had a contagious enthusiasm and loved interacting, learning about them, and laughing with them. He was always his authentic self, often goofy, sometimes forgetful, and always funny.
Throughout their 65 years of marriage, Burt and Ann enjoyed raising their children, spending time with their grandkids, time with family and friends at their camp Chez Soi, traveling, and in latter years faithfully saying the rosary together every day. Burt had quiet but strong faith. It was central in the ups and downs of a life well-lived.
