It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Betty Jo Chambers Farmer, who departed this life on January 11, 2026, in Baton Rouge, LA, at the age of 94. Born on April 27, 1931, in Bremen, GA, Betty led a life rich with love, faith, and dedication to her family.

A funeral service to honor and celebrate her life will be held on January 15, 2026, from 10:00 AM until service time at 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church in Houma. Following the service, Betty Jo will be laid to rest at Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Betty Jo is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Reckert (Tom); daughters-in-law, LaDale Farmer, Millie Farmer, Dinea Farmer; grandchildren, Jay Farmer (Amy), Brett Farmer (Monica), Tracy Duplantis (Tracy Lynn), Ashley Necessary (Russ), Lauren Speer (Sam), David Reckert (Tara), Kevin Reckert (Mary), Amelia Reaves (Gaven), Spencer Farmer (Corinne), Collin Farmer (Alex), and Jourdan Farmer (Katie); and 23 great-grandchildren.

Betty Jo is preceded in death by her parents, David C. Chambers and Fannie Hobbs Chambers; loving husband of 73 years, James R. Farmer, Sr.; sons, James Farmer, Jr., Ken Farmer, Richard Farmer; brothers, J. Ross Chambers, Kermit Chambers, Herman Chambers; sisters, Clara Waits, Ruth Dewberry, Faye McBrayer.

Throughout her life, Betty Jo was known for her unwavering faith and dedication to her spiritual growth. She was an avid participant in Bible studies and loved to spend her quiet moments studying scripture. She found enjoyment in sitting on her patio and watching the birds at the bird feeders and tending to her plants and flowers.

Betty Jo's true joy came from the time spent with her family. Affectionately known as "Gramma" by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she filled their lives with warmth, laughter, and countless treasured moments.

Betty Jo leaves behind a legacy of faith, love and cherished moments that will forever remain in our hearts.
