Barbara Ann Marcel Sullivan, a beloved resident of Houma, Louisiana, was born on January 21, 1943, and passed away on January 15, 2026. A cherished member of her community, Barbara dedicated her life to bringing joy to others.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at Chauvin Funeral Home Tuesday, January 20, 2026 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at St. Lucy Catholic Church from 9:00 AM until service time at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Holy Rosary Cemetery.
Barbara is survived by her son, David Sullivan III (Joannie); daughters, Wanza Duplantis (Chico), Holly Schexnayder (Jimbo), April Sullivan (Chris); grandchildren, Kaitlyn Wargo (Patrick), Shelby Lewis (Taylor), Evan Frank, Brigette Frank, Spc. Alex Schexnayder, Beau Sullivan (MacKenzee), Brittany Dupre (Layne), Ross Desselle (Heidi); great-grandchildren, Caroline and Elise Dupre, Kolt and Daxton Desselle, Emory Lewis, baby boy Wargo; sister, Lydia Colvin.
Barbara is preceded in death by, David F. Sullivan, Jr. and Irene Sullivan; parents, Lee Peter Marcel, Sr. and Genevieve Berthelot Marcel; brothers, Lee Marcel, Jr., Ronald Marcel, Carl Marcel, Wayne Marcel; sisters, Sylvia Matherne, Marilyn Falgout, Brenda Robichaux.
Born and raised in Houma, Barbara's passion for her culture was evident in her love for Mardi Gras. She proudly founded the Krewe of Aphrodite, where she became the first Queen, leaving a lasting legacy of joy and celebration in the hearts of many. As a member of the Elks Lodge, Lions Club, JayCees, and the Chamber of Commerce, she was deeply committed to community service and fostering connections among her peers.
Barbara's zest for life was reflected in her love of dancing and her time spent at Grand Isle, where she created countless memories with family and friends. Her warm spirit and infectious laughter will be missed by all who knew her.
Barbara's vibrant spirit will remain a guiding light in our community, and her legacy of love and celebration will live on in our hearts.
