Alvin Yates

October 14, 1948 — November 25, 2022

Alvin “Bruce” Yates, 74, passed away surrounded by his loving wife and family Friday, November  25, 2022 at 4:23pm.  Alvin was a native of Alexandria, LA and a resident of Houma, LA.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation and celebration of life on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at Chauvin Funeral Home from 9:00am until a celebration of life beginning at 10:30am.  Burial will follow services in Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Alvin “Bruce” Yates was one of a kind. A man of many abilities, he was admired as much for his master carpentry as for his skills as an outdoorsman. Among his fellow fisherman, he was known as the “fish whisperer” for his extraordinary catches. He also had an outsized personality to match, always ready with a great sense of humor, funny  jokes and a big laugh with his favorite greeting, “How you doin?” and “I’ll be back”.

Alvin was born in Alexandria, LA on October 14, 1948, to Irvin Bordelon and Theresa Cole. He joined the U.S. Army in 1968 and served two tours in Vietnam.

In 1979 he married Arlene Martin, who survives him at their home in Houma. He is also survived by son, Jaymon Yates and daughter-in-law Tessalina, daughters, Tonya and Heidi, sister, Jane Ogden, many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as by his adored pets, Josie “Peanut”, Khloe and grand-dog Dave.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Irvin Ray Yates, son, Alvin Jr., and inlaws, Emery and Jeanne Martin.

Until we meet again in God’s Promised Paradise earth, we’ll hold your memory close to our hearts and miss you every day.
