Charles Stephen Cunningham, 96, a native of Atlanta GA and resident of Houma died Monday November 15, 2010.
Visitation will be Friday, November 19, 2010 from 9:00AM until service time at Chauvin Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 1:00PM at Chauvin Funeral Home, with burial in Garden of Memories.
He is survived by his son Myles D. Cunningham and wife Gail of Houma; two grandchildren Courtney Thigpen and husband Scott and Katie Cunningham and two great grandchildren Madison Cunningham and Brooklyn Thigpen.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years Marion Boudreaux Cunningham, one son Charles Stephen Cunningham Jr., his parents Clifford Cunningham and Hattie Mae Jones Cunningham, one sister Hilda Blanchard.
He attended Georgia Tech on a baseball scholarship where he majored in electrical engineering. He served as a staff sargeant in the U.S. Army during World War II.After serving in the Military overseas he attended John Marshall Law School in Atlanta GA where he earned his Masters degree in Law.
He retired as an engineer with the GA West Point Rail Road after 32 years of service.
He was an arid baseball fan and he had a love for the out doors and animals.
His hobbies included watching sports events and fishing. He was also a Mason.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Medical Team for their caregiving. We would like to thank four special caregivers Jennifer Brunet, Aver Francois, Dot Coleman and Roslind Thomas, and to his doctors who cared for his eyes Dr. Keith Kellum, Van Ardoin, Maria Bernal and to Dr. Stephen Hellman his physician. He will be greatly missed by family, friends and relatives.
