Harry Firmin Hellier Jr., 66, a native and resident of Houma, died at 5:16 a.m. Friday, Oct. 29, 2010. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at Chauvin Funeral Home and from 9 a.m. to funeral time Tuesday at St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church. Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with burial in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2. He is survived by two sisters, Libbye Hellier of Houma, and Cyril Ann Hellier of Houma; one brother, John Tullis Hellier of Houma; one niece, Stephanie Anne Hellier; two great nephews, Matthew Odom and Nicholas Trahan; and one great niece, Keri Trahan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Hellier Sr. and Cyril Tullis Hellier; one brother, David Bruce Hellier; and one nephew, David Bruce Hellier Jr. Harry was a school teacher from 1969 to 2001 where he retired from Ellender Memorial High school. He was a parishioner of St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church. He was a past president of the Louisiana Numismatic Association. He loved coins, politics, the New Orleans Saints and especially religion. He was often referred to as a walking encyclopedia.
