Larke Watkins Yancey, 86, a native of resident of Houma, LA died Tuesday, September 14, 2010. Vistiation will be Thursday, September 16, 2010 from 8:30 a.m. until service time at St. Francis de Sales Cathedral. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Cathedral with burial at St. Francis No. 2 Cemetery. Survived by her beloved husband of 64 years Ernest J. Yancey, Sr; Eight Children, Ernest J. Yancey, Jr., Susan Y. Roos, Lydia Y. Beauvais, Paula Y. Guidry, Stanley E. Yancey, Amy Yancey, Gregory B. Yancey, and Patrick H. Yancey; eleven grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren; and sister, Dewey Lolita Rita Watkins Anderson. She is preceded in death by her Father, Dewey Luke Watkins; Mother, Eva Cantrell Watkins; Brother, Dewey Luke Watkins, Jr and Sister, Nancey Louise Watkins. She was a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Cathedral. Mrs. Yancey was a facilitator for The National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI) of Terrebonne for which she worked with great devotion. Mrs. Yancey was instrumental in helping the Start Corporation build the apartments for the mentally ill. One of the apartment complexes is named Larke Village, in honor of Mrs. Yancey's dedication to this orgranization. Mrs. Yancey gave many years of love, support and dedication to NAMI of Terrebonne and ADAC of Terrebonne. She devoted many years of time and effort to these organizations for the needs of many people in Terrebonne Parish. Her husband was the light of her life and her children were the joy of her life, and our loving God was always her stength. Throught her life she loved and cured for all whom she met. Mrs. Yancey was an avid with the Women's Golf Auxiliary at Ellendale; she even won the club championship. The family extends its deepest appreciation to the medical community, The Homestead, and the many private caregivers whose compassionate, tender, and loving care comforted Mrs. Yancey during her many years of illness.
