Rita LaCoste Champagne, 79, a native of Terrebonne Parish and resident of Houma, died at 10:50 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006.
Visitation will be from 4 to 10 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to funeral time Wednesday at Chauvin Funeral Home. Mass will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Eloi Catholic Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
She is survived by three daughters, Carol Lee C. Levron and husband, Wade, Charlotte C. Voisin and husband, Wilson Voisin Jr., of Houma, and Mary Lee C. Duhon of Lake Charles; three brothers, David LaCoste, Julius LaCoste of Theriot and Junius LaCoste of Morgan City; two sisters, Dita L. DeHart of Houma, and Ruth L. LeBlanc of Golden Meadow; 12 grandchildren, Darla Chauvin, Kemala Domangue, Wade Levron Jr., Maria Sims, Tonia Guidry, Toby Voisin, Jannie LaCoste, Chantelle Lovell, Elizabeth Lirette, Denise Tassin, Sherry Holland and Emma Crysel; and 21 great-grandchildren, Tori Guidry, Katelyn Guidry, Dakota Duplantis, Glenn Duplantis, Darrion Holland, Whitney Voisin, Emily Voisin, Jacob Voisin, Malcolmb LaCoste III, Darren Lirette Jr., Mitch Lirette, Brooke Lovell, Bree Lovell, Cami Duplechin, Emily Bartholomy, Lani Bartholomy, Logan Simms, Katie Chauvin, Riley Chauvin, Kyle Trosclair and Conner Levron.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Whitney Joseph Champagne; her parents, Adam LaCoste and Edna DeHart LaCoste; one great-grandchild, Erin Elizabeth Chauvin; and one sister, Ouida L. Lirette.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing and crocheting. She was an Eucharistic Minister and a past instructor of RCIA and CCD. Rita was a loving wife, devoted mother and extremely proud grandmother and great-grandmother. It was her love for children that made it easy for her to donate her time and talents to Threads of Love, an organization which made clothing for babies born prematurely at Terrebonne General Medical Center. Prior to her passing, she was working on starting a similar program at Chabert Medical Center.
She was a parishioner of St. Eloi Catholic Church.
