Robert Roland Wright, 92, passed away Saturday, June 12, 2010. He was born in Terrebonne Parish April 29, 1918.
Visitation: Tuesday, June 15. 2010 from 9:00 a.m. until service time at St. Francis de Sales Cathedral
Services will be Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Cathedral, With burial in St. Francis #2 Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ruth Pellegrin Wright and two sons, Thomas Love and wife Harriet Chauvin Wright of Fort Myers, Florida and Richard Patrick and wife Diane Troxler Wright of White Castle, LA. He is also survived by seven grand children, Margaret, Elizabeth, William, Holden, Timothy, James Wright and Ann Wright Hebert. He is also survived by one great granddaughter Madison Wright, step granddaughters, Lynell Ervin and Nicole Dufrene, step-great grandchildren, Scott Deloach, Alex Dufrene, Ashlyn Ervin and Alyssa Ervin, step great great granddaughter, McKinna Deloach and several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by one son, Robert Roland "Bob" Wright, Jr., his parents Thomas Edward, Sr.
and Levie Emerenthe Druilhet Wright; five brothers, Thomas Elward Jr., Paul Alexandre, Conley Joseph “Dooley”, Kenneth Holden “Doc”, and Louis Druilhet “Jet” Wright; four sisters, Alva Larose, Marguerite Cock, Sarah Sandoz and Marian Wright.
He graduated from Terrebonne High School 1934 and attended Louisiana State University where he earned a B.S. degree in civil engineering. He was inducted into the U.S. Army in November 1941. He received his commission at Fort Benning, Georgia in June 1942 and served in the Pacific theater for three and a half years. He was recalled to service in 1950 during the Korean War and served as a Capt. In the US Army Corps of Engineers. He founded and operated Robert R. Wright Civil Engineers and Surveyors until his retirement.
He was a member of the Louisiana Association of Professional Engineers and Surveyors, the Society of American Military Engineers, (Veterans of Foreign Wars), a charter member of Ellendale Country Club, and was a life member of the Knights of Columbus.
He was a lifelong member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church.
He was awarded the Papal Medal “Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice” bestowed upon him by
Pope Paul VI.
He was a devoted and loving husband. His greatest pleasure was being with his family.
