Alphonse Joseph Authement Jr., 72, a native of Grand Caillou and resident of Houma, died at 11:20 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, 2006.
Visitation will be from noon to 10 p.m. Sunday at Chauvin Funeral Home and from 8:30 a.m. to funeral time Monday at Holy Family Catholic Church. Mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the church, with burial in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Verlin Julia Dehart Authement of Houma; four daughters, Carletta and husband, Dennis Dunne, Suzette and husband, Michael Dehart, Sebrina and husband, Joe Scurlock, of Dulac and Katrina and husband, Rhett Fornof, of Park City, Utah; one sister, Marjorie Authement Foret and husband, Eldon Foret Sr., of Chauvin; six grandchildren, Gypsy Marie DeHart Thompson and husband, Timmy Thompson, Brett Michael Dunne and wife, Nicole Olivier Dunne, Dakota Joseph Scurlock, Devyn Joseph Fornof, Parker William Fornof and Tayler Anne Fornof; and six great-grandchildren, Jace William Dunne, Ashley Elizabeth Dunne, Sadie Kathryn Thompson, Haley Julia Thompson, Courtney Lynne Dunne and Kylie Michelle Dunne.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alphonse J. Authement Sr. and Octavia Hebert Authement; her stepmother, Onezia Thibodaux Authement; five brothers, Ivy, Calvin J., Eugene, Horace and Huey A. Authement; and three sisters, Emily Authement Voisin, Gertrude Authement Tivet Fonseca and Gladys Authement Domangue.
He was owner of Gulf Breeze Seafood Inc. of Dulac and co-owner of A.J. Authement Co. Inc. and Authement Packing Co. Inc.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Holy Name Society. He served as police juror of Ward 4 from 1968 to 1976. He was on the advisory board of the former First National Bank of Houma, served as a member of the Airport Commission and was a founding member of the Grand Caillou Volunteer Fire Department. He was a former member of the board of the Grand Caillou Recreation Center.
He was a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church, where he served as an usher.
