Maxine Beights Heathcott, 85, a native of Lorainne, Texas, and resident of Houma, died at 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27, 2006. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to funeral time Wednesday at Chauvin Funeral Home. Religious service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home chapel, with burial in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, James Heathcott of Houma; one son, Willard Blaine "Sonny" Groom and wife, Denise "Deni" of Houma; one brother, Cletus Blaine Beights of Amarillo, Texas; one sister, Faye Taylor of Jacksonville, Fla.; two grandchildren, James Mickey Groom and wife, Kristi Boudreaux Groom of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Stephanie Groom Knight and husband, Jody, of Houma; and three great-grandchildren, Brittany Knight, Trent Ledet of Houma and Jacob Groom of Ft. Worth. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Willard Boyd Groom; her parents, Henry Blaine Beights and Ida Mae Atkinson Beights; and one sister, Mary Landfried. She was a retired bank teller with Terrebonne and American Bank. She was a member of the Elks, American Legion Auxiliary, a lifetime member of South Terrebonne Booster, member of H.L. Bourgeois Booster Club, member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the Southwest Region of Babe Ruth Softball Booster Club.
