James Joseph Crowley Jr., 85, a native of Bronx, N.Y., and resident of Houma, died at 10:24 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010. Visitation will be from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to funeral time Saturday at Chauvin Funeral Home. Service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with burial in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2. He is survived by his spouse, Shirley DeHart Crowley; four sons, James Crowley III and Jamie, of Houma, Lee Landry and Donna, of Lafayette, Brett Landry and Dayna, of Lafayette, and Craig Landry and Leslie, of Houma; one daughter, Jane Hebert and Charles, of Houma; one sister, Margaret Ruffino of Fords, N.J.; eight grandchildren, Chucky Hebert, Todd Hebert, Wade Austin Landry, Mason Landry, Kirsten Landry, Connor Landry, Lexi Landry and Crissi Landry; and one great-grandchild, Dylan Hebert. He was preceded in death by his father, James J. Crowley Sr. of Bronx, N.Y.; and his mother, Elizabeth Alen Crowley of Riverdale, N.Y.; and one sister, Dorothy Johnson. He was an I.R.S. auditor and owner of Houma Bowl, Iberia Bowl and Creole Lanes. He was a member of Harvest Cathedral, V.F.W., American Legion, Elks, Knights of Columbus and Rotary. He was the founding member of Mr. Ronnie’s Doughnut Gossip Club and a member of and First King of the Krewe of Christopher. He was president and Secretary of Bowling Leagues and LA State Bowling Proprietors Assoc. and a member of Knights of Columbus Bowling team. He was a great contributor to many needy members of the local community and an avid supporter of many local charities and great humanitarian. He was one of LSU’s greatest fans and supporters. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, baseball and was a Yankees fan. He passed away after a 10-year battle with Leukemia. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great employer for many decades. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Leukemia Research Foundation at 3520 Lake Avenue, Suite # 202, Wilmette, Ill. 60091-1064.
