Dennis "Captain D" James Cotton, 54, a native of New Orleans and resident of Houma, died at 9:19 p.m. Sunday, May 4, 2008.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today at Chauvin Funeral Home and from 9 a.m. to funeral time Wednesday at Friendswood Church of God. Religious service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with burial in Grand Caillou Baptist Church Cemetery.
He is survived by Crystal and Mark Parfait; four brothers, Lawrence A. Cotton, Larry Cotton and wife, Louella, David Cotton and wife, Phyllis, and Daniel Cotton and companion, Samantha; four sisters, Dianna M. Cotton, Patricia Cotton, Virginia C. Billiot and husband, Julius, and Jean C. Graham and husband, Richard; 31 nieces and nephews; his god children, Alicia Billiot and Cody Parfait; and many close friends who were considered family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Cotton and Florence Verdin Cotton.
He was a boat captain with Smith Marine Towing on the Captain Sam. He lived his life to the fullest and loved his job as boat captain for Smith Marine Towing. He was always there to lend a helping hand when needed. He was loved and will be greatly missed.
He was a member of Friendswood Church of God.
