Elsie Giroir Metcalf Hebert, 95, born in Grand Caillou, LA on January 6, 1917 and a former resident of Houma, LA, died Sunday, December 16, 2012 at her daughter’s residence in Thibodaux, LA.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 from 10:00 AM until service time at St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 AM at the church. She will be buried following her services beside her husband at St. Francis #2 Cemetery.
She is survived by her daughters, Sandra Kardinal and husband, Dr. Carl Kardinal, Sharon Naquin and her husband Lionel Naquin, Jr. and Sylvia Ockmond. She is also survived by her daughter in law, Dianne Metcalf, six grandchildren, Heather Tanner, Ashley Barrios, Lauren Duplantis, Joshua Ockmond, Angelle Allen and Matthew Ockmond, twelve great grandchildren and a younger sister, Lorraine Bunch.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, William Metcalf, a teacher and principal in Terrebonne Parish, her beloved son, Reginald Metcalf, her second husband, Andrew Hebert from Bourg, parents, Leo and Evelia Luke Giroir, brothers, Xavier Giroir, Roy Giroir, Lee Roy Giroir and sisters, Hilda LeBlanc, Ezelle Vice, Hazel Carlos, Ruth Hebert and Gertrude Walker.
Elsie was a loving mother and grandmother; she enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, and stayed active well into her nineties. She will be missed by family and friends.
