John Floyd, MD

March 3, 1957 — October 7, 2012

John Cecil Floyd, MD, a resident of Houma, LA and a native of Rome, GA passed away early Sunday October 7, 2012 due to complications of colon cancer. He was born March 3, 1957, to Carolyn Blake Floyd and Cecil Floyd. John graduated a year early from high school at The Darlington School in Rome, and earned degrees from University of Georgia and Tulane University School of Medicine. He served his internship and residency at Ochsner Medical Foundation in New Orleans, Louisiana. He practiced in Houma as an OB/GYN from June, 1989 until illness no longer allowed him to practice in late 2011. He was Board Certified in Obstetrics & Gynecology, and was a member of the American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Louisiana State Medical Society, Terrebonne Independent Physicians’ Association, and Terrebonne Parish Medical Society. Dr. Floyd was preceded in death by his mother, Carolyn Blake Floyd and his uncle, John Ashby Floyd. He is survived by his children, Blake, Ben, Seth and Hope Floyd; their mother and former wife, Ann Floyd; step children, Amanda, Butch and Will Reeves; their mother, and former wife, Patti Reeves Floyd; father and step mother, Cecil and Ladre Cumbe Floyd; sister, Susan and her husband, Bob Murphy; nieces, Carolyn, and her husband, Mike Twining; Katie, and her husband Chris Breedlove and his best friend Lee Watson. Dr. Floyd loved family, spending time with his children and their always present friends, he loved cooking, hunting , spending time in Highlands, NC with his parents and he loved his work and time spent with colleagues and staff at Terrebonne General Medical Center , and his office Women’s Health & Wellness. He talked fondly of his time spent on medical mission trips during high school and college. Dr. Floyd was a member of First Baptist Church Houma. Special thanks to his church family of First Baptist Church Houma, Dr. Charlie Ledoux and Dr. Russell Henry, the staff of Terrebonne General Medical Center, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center-Houma, Oschner Foundation Hospital, Haydel Memorial Hospice , Patty Voss, Lori Ables and Connie Nicholas. A memorial service will be held Thursday, October 11, 2012 at 6:00 p.m at First Baptist Church of Houma, 4863 Park Ave., Houma, LA 70360. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Building Fund at First Baptist Church of Houma in Dr. Floyd’s memory.
