Merian Ann Fontana Henry, 78, died Sunday, October 7, 2012 at 8:35 AM. She was a native of New Orleans, LA and resident of Houma, LA. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 11, 2012 from 9:00 AM until service time at Chauvin Funeral Home, Inc. Liturgy of the Word will be held on Thursday, October 11, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Chauvin Funeral Home, Inc. Burial: St. Francis de Sales Cemetery #2. She is survived by her husband, Eddie J. Henry, Jr., Houma, LA, son, Eddie Joseph Henry, III and wife Linda Miller Henry, Algiers, LA, daughter, Susan Henry Hebert and husband Anthony James Hebert, Denham Springs, LA, grandchildren, Dominick Vincent Henry, Kathleen Curren Henry, Robert Patrick Henry, Aimee Michelle Hebert, brothers, Peter T. Fontana, London, Steven Fontana, Thibodaux, LA, sisters, Rosemary Pizolatto, Houma, LA, Betty Jean Ward, Laurel, MS, Kathryn Mizell, Charlotte, NC. She was preceded in death by her parents, Vincent Anthony Fontana and Congetta Solito Fontana, sisters, Antoinette Bergeron, Clara Marie Fontana, Patricia Bellanger, Congetta Burke, brother, Charles Fontana. She was a parishioner of Maria Immacolata Catholic Church. She was a retired teacher with thirty years experience for the Terrebonne Parish School Board. She taught hundreds of children during her career. She taught immediately out of high school at the Dulac Indian School, while attending Nicholls State College. She also taught at Bourg Elementary, Legion Park School and Lisa Park Elementary. She was also in the first graduating class when Nicholls State became a 4 year college. After retiring from teaching, she went on to get a real estate license and became an agent for Century 21 and ReMax for 15 years. Merian was a member of the Terrebonne Fine Arts Guild. She volunteered at Southdown Museum and Downtown on the Bayou. She was the President of Arts and Humantities and Chairman of the Board for Council on Aging and a board member at Maria Immacolata School. Merian also volunteered for the 4-H club at Legion Park for 20 years.
