Dennis Anthony Domangue, 92, died Thursday, July 19, 2012 at 1:15 AM. He was a native of Chauvin, LA and a resident of Lafayette, LA. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 19, 2012 from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Chauvin Funeral Home, Inc., and Friday, July 20, 2012 from 9:00 AM until service time at St. Ann Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 20, 2012 at 10:00 AM at St. Ann Catholic Church with interment in St. Ann Catholic Cemetery. Survivors include his two daughters, Maureen Domangue Landry and her husband Rufus of Houston, TX, and Sherry Domangue Cockerham and her husband Ronnie of Lafayette, LA. Nine Grandchildren: Danny Landry, Jill Pre’jean, Dina Landry Berry, Johnny Landry, Joey Landry, Nicole Cockerham, Cherie Cockerham Sellers, Mark Cockerham, and Kristin Cockerham. 10 Great Grandchildren and two Great-great grandchildren. He was preceeded in death by his wife of 55 years, Velma Blanchard Domangue; his parents, Julian Joseph Domangue and Angelina Boudreaux Domangue; Four brothers; Lester Domangue, Weston Domangue, Ernest Domangue, and Junest Domangue. Three sisters; Leola D. Champagne, Ester D. Mazarac and Viola D. Houck. Dennis was born in Chauvin, LA and graduated from Terrebonne High School in 1936 at the young age of 16. He entered the Army in 1941, along with two of his brothers and he was stationed near London, England for 3 years during WWII. He was a decorated Sergeant Major and worked for the U.S. Army Medical Center. Upon returning to the United States he was stationed at Camp Shelby in Hattiesburg, MS. In 1941 he married his beloved wife, Velma Blanchard and had two daughters. After serving his country, he attended SLI in Lafayette, LA and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Agronomy with honors. Upon graduation, he moved his family to Napoleonville, LA where he worked as an Agronomist/Division Manager over three plantations for Godchaux Sugars and lived on Elm Hall Plantation for many years. Later, he moved to Houma, LA and worked for Louisiana State Employment Security as an Area Office Manager for 20 years, he then retired and moved to Lafayette, LA. Dennis was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. He was a devout Catholic, loved cooking, wood working, dancing and most of all, being with his family. The family would like to thank the staff of Gardenview Assisted Living, Cornerstone Village Inc, Hospice of Acadiana , Mattie Citizen and Reba Rodrigue for the wonderful care they have given our loved one.
