Oliver Joseph Matherne, 75, died Friday, May 25, 2012 at 11:45 PM. He was a native and resident of Houma, LA. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 from 9:00 AM until service time at St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at 11:00 AM at St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church. Burial: St. Francis de Sales Cemetery #2 He is survived by his, wife, Betty Ann Sharpe Matherne, Houma, LA, sons, Christopher James Matherne, Houma, LA, Samuel Joseph Matherne and wife Terri, Houma, LA, daughter, Celeste Marie Matherne Bauland and husband Hal, Houma, LA, grandchildren, Matthew Matherne, Cori Anna Matherne, Madeleine Bauland, Meredith Bauland, brother, John Matherne, sisters, Emma "Lynn" Chafin and Rosalie Matherne Pace. He was preceded in death by his, parents, Warner J. Matherne and Mineola Hebert Matherne, sisters, Anna Mae Nelton, Alea Dupre. Oliver was a parishioner of St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church. He was a District Fire Chief for twenty years. After retiring from the fire department he went on to work and retire from Hughes Drilling Fluids as a Safety Director. He served in the United States Navy during peacetime and was a member of the U.S.S. Richard B. Anderson Alumni Association.
