Lester James Guidry, 81, died Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at 12:29 PM. He was a native and resident of Houma, LA.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 11, 2012 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and Saturday, May 12, 2012 beginning at 8:00 AM.A military service will be held at 9:15 AM and Liturgy of the Word will follow at 10:00 AM at Chauvin Funeral Home, Inc.
He is survived by his
loving wife of 62 years, Lorraine Powers Guidry, Houma, LA,
sons, James Guidry and wife Paige, Houston, TX, Arthur Guidry, Houma, LA,
daughters, Ellen Richey, Memphis, TN, Karen Billgren and husband Ricky, Rogers, AR, Cindy Daire and husband Michael, LaCombe, LA, Patricia Warner and husband Bryan, Pensacola, FL,
eighteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren,
sister, Betty Clay, Stone Mountain, GA.
He was preceded in death by his,
parents, Elie Guidry and Estelle LeBlanc Guidry,
brother, Lee Bert Guidry.
He was a parishioner of St. Bernadette Soubirous Catholic Church.
Lester served in the United States Army as a First Lieutenant during the Korean War. He was stationed in numerous areas, stateside. He was a decorated, expert marksman and an instructor. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and was honorably discharged on February 6, 1960.
He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, a past member of The Rotary Club and member of the Houma Pistol Club.
He was a past president of the Parent Teacher Association at St. Bernadette Catholic School.
Lester was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was loved by numerous people of the community and will be missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to The Wounded Warriors Association or the charity of your choice in his name.
