Mathew James Arceneaux, a native and resident of Houma, died of complications from nerve cancer on Thursday, March 22, 2012, at 6:35 a.m. He was 28.
Visitation will be at Chauvin Funeral Home in Houma on Monday, March 26, 2012, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., and at St. Francis de Sales Cathedral in Houma on Tuesday March 27, 2012, from 9:30 a.m. until funeral time. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. followed by internment at St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. II.
Matt is survived by his parents, Judge David Arceneaux and Frances Lagarde Arceneaux of Houma; his sister and her husband, Katherine Arceneaux DeWater and Jason DeWater of Omaha, Nebraska; and his brother and his wife, Jeffrey Arceneaux and Amanda Silva Arceneaux of Houma. He is also survived by his paternal grandparents, Gerald and Kathy Arceneaux of Bourg, and his nieces and nephews, Noah Arceneaux, Annabelle DeWater, Vivienne DeWater, and Emmitt DeWater.
His maternal grandparents, Francis “Scooper” Lagarde and Berlien Grabert Lagarde of Thibodaux, preceded him in death.
Matt was a graduate of Vandebilt Catholic High School and Delgado Community College. He was employed by the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The family wishes to express its appreciation to all Matt’s friends, co-workers, and others who brought him comfort and joy in the last weeks of his life, especially Father Jerry Villarubia, Father Andre Melancon, the members of the Vandebilt Class of 2002, the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office, and Robert, Tammy, Nathaniel, Patty, and Laura of Haydel Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the St. Gregory Elementary School Fund or other charity of your choice.
