John Saia

John Louis Saia, 89, died Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at 3:30 PM. He was a native and resident of Houma, LA. Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2012 from 9:30 AM until service time at St. Francis de Sales Cathedral. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 11:30 AM at St. Francis de Sales Cathedral . Burial will follow at Saint Francis de Sales Cemetery #2. He is survived by his, wife, Helen Griffin Saia, daughter, Jeanne C. Saia, grandsons, John Duet, Jack Duet, III, and Dino Duet, great grandaughter, Amber Duet, brother, Vincent Saia and sister, Rita Saia Ayers. He was preceded in death by his, parents, Christine Fazzio Saia and Louis Saia, daughter, Schere Saia Marullo, sister, Christine Saia Jones and brother, Louis P. Saia, Jr. He was a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Cathedral. He and his brothers expanded Saia Motor Freight Line opening terminals throughout Louisiana and the Sunbelt States. He became Chief Financial Officer and Director of Main Office Operations for Saia Motor Freight Line until retirement. He served in the United States Army during World War II. In addition to his career in the trucking industry he was an accomplished investor with other businesses and the financial markets. He was an avid sportsman enjoying fishing and hunting. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Mr. Saia’s name to the charity of your choice.
