Rita Blanche Boudreaux Rhodes, age 89, a native and lifelong resident of Houma, LA in Terrebonne Parish, died at 1:50 PM Sunday December 4, 2011 in her home in the presence of family.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday December 7 at Chauvin Funeral Home, 5899 Hwy 311, Houma, LA . A recitation of the rosary will be held at 7 PM. Visitation will resume at Chauvin Funeral Home on Thursday xdd, December 8 at 8:00am until funeral time. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday December 8th followed by burial at St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2 mausoleum.
Rita is survived by two sons, Michael Glenn Rhodes and wife, Roslyn, of Thibodaux, LA, Keith Anthony Rhodes of Walker, LA and one daughter and caregiver, Kathy Ann Rhodes of Houma, LA; five grandchildren – Glenn Rhodes and wife, Maria, Van Rhodes, Jill Rhodes and fiancé Brian Chadwick, Marci Rhodes Henning and husband, Eric, and Ray Paul Rhodes and wife Christy; eight great- grandchildren – Carson Henning, Ray Paul “RJ” Rhodes, Jr., Scarlett Henning, Aubrey Henning, Brody Henning, Preston Rhodes, Brayden Rhodes and Jewell Henning, two soon-to-be step great- grandchildren, Myles and Cameron Chadwick, as well as two more on the way.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Rhodes; her parents, Henry and Angelina Champagne Boudreaux; two brothers, Andrew and Rudolph Boudreaux; and four sisters, Marie Fonseca, Irene Matherne, Nellie Malbrough and Aline Darcey.
She was a homemaker and former kindergarten teacher founding the Humpty Dumpty Kindergarten. She was then the first kindergarten teacher with Maria Immaculata Catholic School. She was an accomplished and award-winning artist as well as a former president and lifetime member of the Terrebonne Fine Arts Guild. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, painting, arts and crafts, and just being with her family and friends. Over the years Rita participated in a variety of organizations including but not limited to the Terrebonne Fine Arts Guild, Catholic Daughters, Boy Scouts, Vandebilt Band Boosters and American Hemerocallis Society.
Pallbearers are Michael Rhodes, Glenn Rhodes, Van Rhodes, Ray Paul Rhodes, Stanton Rhodes and Brian Chadwick. Honorary pallbearers are Keith Rhodes and Kathy Rhodes.
She was a parishioner of St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church.
