Betty Duplantis Brown, 83, died Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at 5:30 AM. She was a native of Houma, LA and resident of Houma, LA. Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2011 from 9:00am to 11:00am at Chauvin Funeral Home, Inc. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at 11:00am at Chauvin Funeral Home, Inc.. Burial: Terrebonne Memorial Park She is survived by her two sons Ricky L. Brown and wife Gay, Dale A. Brown and wife Nancy, five grandchildren Derek Brown, Kelly B. Roundtree and husband Brent, Jaime B. Sticker and husband Justin, Michael Brown and wife Vanessa, Byron J. Brown, four great grandchildren Jessica, Makayla, Mischa and Mason Brown. She is preceeded in death by her husband Lee Allen Brown and her parents Arthur P. Duplantis and Celeste B. Duplantis. Betty's watercolor art was her passion. After many years of private instruction she developed her own style. Her favorite subjects were florals and romantic subject. She has studied under Edgar Whitney, Tony Van Hasselt, Tom Lynch and Douglas Walton. She also attended class at Nicholls and Pensacola Junior College on occassion. Her travels through the U.S., Canada, and Europe gave her plenty of creative ideas over the years. Former two time president of Terrebonne Fine Arts Guild and a current board member, she was also involved with the Guild's production of art lesson booklets for children. Memberships include Red Geraniums Art Group, American Watercolor Society, Southdown Historical Society Museum, Louisiana Watercolor Society and The Arts and Humanities Council. She also belonged to Pensacola Art Club. She has won numerous awards over the years and has displayed her art in Houma, New Orleans and Pensacola. She had the talent and ability to capture natures beauty with color. She was a great mom, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to all and will be sadly missed. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the American Cancer Society.
