Webb Paul Picou was born Oct. 10, 1923, in Houma, Louisiana. He resided in Bourg, Louisiana for over 36 years and was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He was 88 years old and died at 2:10 p.m. on Sunday, October 16, 2011 at his residence surrounded by loved ones.
He loved to visit family and friends and never met a stranger. Those who knew him knew he had a great sense of humor, and was ready to share a joke or two. For years he loved watching football and baseball on T.V. along with The Lawrence Welk Show, rerun after rerun. And, if you visited with him long enough you were sure to hear his accounts of his service as an Army Sgt. in the World War II invasion of Omaha Beach on D-Day, the Battle of St. Lou and the Battle of the Bulge. He was honored in New Orleans at the National D-Day Museums 66th D-Day anniversary celebration where he was interviewed for a television broadcast. After retiring from Halliburton Services with 30 years of service he loved to keep busy in his “Dilly Dally” Garden. Another favorite pastime was baking his famous 3-layer cakes and cooking, raising birds and taking trips to the city (New Orleans) for one of his favorite deserts-Coffee and Beignets or to take his children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren for a snowball or two. Life was good and blessings were many for this very faith-filled family man. After his body began to confine him from his normal activities, his strength and courage to keep on keeping on, gave testimony to his life and service to God and his family and country.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Olen, married 66 years, with memories of his dedicated love, times of laughter and their sharing of tears and of holding hands. He leaves behind his loving children; a son, Glynn Picou and wife Dale also of Bourg; daughter, Mella Rodriguez and husband Ray of Denham Springs. He is survived by 8 grandchildren and 14 great- grandchildren and two expected great-grandchildren. His grandchildren are Paul Reeves and wife Elizabeth, Rusty Picou and wife Thea, Holly Picou Verrett and husband Tommy, Jill Rhodes, Marci Rhodes Henning and husband Eric, Ray Paul Rhodes and wife Christy, Curt Picou and Joseph Rodriguez. His great- grandchildren are Tyler Reeves, Timmy Picou, Lane Verrette, Carson Henning, Zachary Verrette, Ray Paul Rhodes Jr.(RJ), Scarlett Henning, Hunter Reeves, Aubrey Henning, Carter Verrette, Cooper Reeves, Brody Henning, Brayden Rhodes, and Jewell Henning.
